Nostalgia.

I left Twitter at the start of 2025 after Elon did a Nazi salute on stage. And honestly, I still miss the platform.

I miss all the inspiration it gave me for design and development. I miss stumbling upon someone’s side project at 2 a.m. and thinking, 'Wait, you can just do that?' I miss the memes, the chaos, the unhinged energy. It was also a solid lead generation method for me, and that audience, seemingly, didn’t join the other platforms, so it likely cost me financially, too.

I feel like I'm much more 'left out' nowadays. I actually have to search to get inspired, whereas on Twitter it would just find me. I only have Bluesky, and it isn't even close. I did see the other day that Threads is apparently much bigger now than Twitter. Who uses Threads? But then, at the same time, all the real things, the weird things (sometimes the good things) still seem to happen on Twitter.

But principles matter. And so until its owner sells the platform (which he won't), I can't join back. I guess those principles are worth something in the end, too. But it would be so rad if all that design and development inspiration found its way to Bluesky.

And so that's one of my goals this year: to do my part to make Bluesky more of the fun, inspirational mess that Twitter used to give me. How? I have no clue. But I'm going to try. I owe it to myself to at least try rebuilding what I lost somewhere else.

Can I keep you updated?

Starting in 2026, I'll share more focused notes on product design, technology, and business. If you'd like them in your inbox, leave your email below. I'm always happy to connect via email, Bluesky, or LinkedIn (blergh).
